Francis visits the Dicastery Welcoming the Holy Father

As his Encyclical was being presented to the Press, 18 June, Pope Francis dropped in to the Pontifical Council for Culture.

Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi welcomed him on this visitation and introduced all the staff personally to the Pope, illustrating the service they carry out.
And the Pope sat down, listened and answered questions. ‪#‎Dialogue‬.
He enquired after the detail of some of our projects, including the work in the sphere of humanising sports, the Courtyard of the Gentiles for dialogue (not proselytism) with non-believers, and in the scientific field with a focus on rare diseases afflicting children.
He spent time considering the way the Church can better draw on the gifts of women, without turning them into males or being functionalist, and he spoke about the place of gratuity in art and in the economy, giving indications for charitable actions connected to the Holy See’s Pavilion at Expo Milano.

Visit to the Dicastery

The topic that you chose is very close to my heart, and on many previous occasions I have been able to touch on it and call for it to be examined more deeply. It entails studying criteria and new methods in order that women may not feel like guests, but full participants in the various spheres of society and Church life. The Church is woman, she the Church, not he the Church. This challenge can no longer be deferred. I say this to Pastors of Christian communities, here representing the Universal Church, but also to lay women and men committed in different ways in culture, in education, in the economy, in politics, in the world of work, in families, in religious institutions.
