The Holy See, Guest of Honour
at the International Book Fair in Turin 2014
The Holy See took part as guest of honour at the International Book Fair in Turin in 2014 (8-12 May). Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, as Guest of Honour and Representative of the Holy See led the main Vatican institutions involved in the event: the Libreria Editrice Vaticana, the Vatican Museums, the Vatican Apostolic Library, the Vatican Secret Archive, the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology, the Numismatic and Philatelic Office and other institutions, as well as the Archdiocese of Turin.
The Holy See's participation was through its own Stand, built in the shape of Bramante's design for St Peter's Rome, and a series of cultural and artistic events, including a public debate involving the Cardinal and a presentation of the writings of Pope Francis with the Cardinal Secretary of State, His Eminence Pietro Parolin and international meetings with Catholic publishing houses.
There were also events of high cultural and artistic significance, with concerts by the Sistine Chapel Choir, at the Auditorium del Lingotto and at the prestigious Teatro Regio.
