From 2 to 4 September, 2014, with the sponsorship of the Pontifical Council for Culture, there was another edition of the Cathedra of Sacred Art at UDEM.
Dr. Ivonne Donha, professor of the Department of History and Cultural Goods of the Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, led over the course of three days the the thirty-third edition of the Cathedra of Sacred Art, in the UDEM Theater with the participation of at least 150 people.
On this occasion, the theme analyzed was “St. John Paul II, His Regard for Contemporary Art.”
The Cathedra of Sacred Art included the presentations, “Contemporary Art in the Last Great Pontificates,” “Pope John Paul II and Art Commissions,” and “Pope John Paul II and the Church of the Jubilee, Work of Richard Meier.”
The cycle of Cathedra conferences was inaugrated during the morning of 2 September by Lic. Fernando Mata Carrasco, academic vice-chancellor of UDEM. By his side, the priest Manel Olimón Nolasco, historian and researcher, commemorated the recent passing, last July, of Cardinal Francesco Marchisano, who gave the Cathedra of Sacred Art the prominent distinction of High Patronage from the Pontifical Comission for Cultural Goods of the Church.
Also participating in the inauguration was Sister Florencia Infante, founding president of the Cathedra of Sacred Art, and Fr. Carlos Javier Días Vega, official for the Pontifical Council for Culture, who presented a message sent by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Council.
