Generation in the faith
Abstract
Generation in the Faith is the task of adults, just like initiation into the human way of being. A lucid and punctual analysis of the current cultural situation – especially in the West – shows the real weakening of adultness of those who are no longer children. Today, adults are no longer those of yesterday. There is a widespread cult of youth, which blocks such things as growth, experience of limits, acceptance of sickness, and which has removed old age and death from daily discourse. It is a matter then of those vital points on which the meeting between generations takes place and human wisdom is transmitted, touched and enriched by the word of the Gospel. There can be no more delay in facing this real battle for a new understanding, for a new appreciation, a new symbolical-cultural refocusing on adulthood.
